DENTAL INSURANCE

HAPPILY ACCEPTING
DENTAL INSURANCE

When you have a dental insurance plan, either from the marketplace or from your employer, paying for dental treatments doesn’t have to be so unpredictable. Not only can you get the treatments that you and your youngest family members need, but you can save on long-term costs for care, especially when you stay dedicated to routine preventive visits. If you’d like to learn a bit more about how dental insurance functions, please keep reading below or call our dental office!

HOW EXACTLY DOES DENTAL INSURANCE WORK?

While dental insurance is similar to medical insurance in that you gain access to treatments via a monthly premium, dental insurance is actually meant to be used on a regular basis. Medical insurance is generally used only in emergencies, such as a serious injury or illness. In contrast, you’ll want to use dental insurance benefits pretty regularly in order to best protect your long-term oral health. Through preventive care, which dental insurance largely covers, you can reduce the risk of needing more significant restorative or emergency dental treatments.

WHAT TO EXPECT IN TERMS OF COVERAGE

Every dental plan is going to have its own unique stipulations that you should read in closer detail. However, many plans do tend to have the same benefit structure, which often looks like the following:

  • Preventive Care – Generally covers treatments like exams, cleanings and X-rays. Often covered between 80 and 100 percent.
  • Minor Restorative Care – Usually includes dental fillings and root canal therapy. Often covered between 70 and 80 percent.
  • Major Restorative Care – Typically covers dental crowns and other more complex restorative procedures. Often covered up to 50 percent.

ACCEPTING OUT-OF-NETWORK PROVIDERS, SAVING WITH IN-NETWORK PLANS

At this time, Bear Pediatric Dentistry is happy to accept most PPO dental plans for your necessary treatments. If you aren’t familiar with the term “in-network,” it simply means that we have agreed to certain rates for treatments as contractually laid out by an insurance provider. While we are in-network with many plans, you can still receive comparable rates for treatments in many cases even if you are currently out-of-network!
